Try a Little Kindness
Kindness is something that we are missing in today’s society. Folks, in general, are so wrapped up in our own lives and problems that we don’t consider others.
Think about how it makes you feel when someone does something nice for you without any expectations. I’ll bet you’re smiling at the thought.
We have no idea what the people we meet are going through. A kind word, a smile, or a helpful gesture can help ease the unseen burden just a little. “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm of life and not wash out. It will wear well and will be remembered long after the prism of politeness or the complexion of courtesy has faded away.”
What would this world be like if we all did one random act of kindness every day? I think it would be a much more pleasant place to live.
“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” Barbara De Angelis
There are so many ways to show kindness to another person. Open a door for someone, pick up a dropped item, or offer to help carry a package. Help someone who is struggling with a chore. Buy someone a cup of coffee or a soda. The list goes on and on.
It doesn’t take much to make a person smile and make their day a little brighter. “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Aesop
We can show kindness in other ways. Thumper, the rabbit in the movie Bambi, said, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.”
Personally, I think that’s good advice. Sometimes keeping our mouths shut is the kindest thing we can do even if the person in question isn’t present. Ephesians 4:29 tells us, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, ”Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
I encourage everyone to be kind to others. Treat others the way that you want to be treated. We all have bad days. We all struggle. Why not help each other?
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo Buscaglia
“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” Princess Diana

If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say, “You're going the wrong way”
Don’t walk around the down and out
Lend a helpin' hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way
You’ve got to try a little kindness
Yes, show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
